Another one of those posts just for the Humboldt of it because I’m not really that excited by the band. They are very good, I think, for the style they play, but it’s not one of the many styles that grabs me. I only saw these guys once that I remember and that was in 1987, the first year I was up there. They played in the common room on the first floor of the Sunset dorm. I remember liking them which was why I got this tape, but I was pretty high and drunk at the time (and maybe dosed as well). The singer guitar player was a really nice guy and seemed like he was the meat and potaoes of the band. I don’t think they were around too much longer and ended up moving to the bay area. They released stuff on Kirbdog Records, Very Small Records and Lookout Records from what I can tell. I couldn’t find too much about the band on the net except for this, http://www.myspace.com/nuisanceband . There’s some live video over here, http://blackblk.blogspot.com/2007/03/nuisance.html. As I said the band is a little too poppy for my taste, but the tune, Censorship Song, kind of warmed my ears and reminded me more of what they were about live. Rockin’ ya know. See what you think.
Long songs so you can get it the easy way too, http://www.mediafire.com/?zyewimnjznw
aw, dude! you really nailed it with this post! wow!!
nuisance were one of those bands i thought were OKAY at first, and years later they grew on me and became one of my faves. i really never get tired of this band at all. and it’s great now to hear this demo!!
very exciting, TOP POST!! cheers!
Jimmy thanx and I’m stoked you stopped by and got something out of it all. These guys were definately one of the few Humboldt bands that reached a wide audience, but I didn’t realize that until I did this post. Once again glad you stopped by.
poppy aint a good description of nuisance dude.but great post anyway!i didnt know this tape existed!!!
Randy thanx for leaving a comment and stopping by. You don’t like poppy huh? I wish you had given me a better word, Maybe I use that term too often for bands that aren’t edgy enough for me. Most of the music I listen to needs to kick me in the ass. Let me tell you I don’t remember much but they were a hell of a lot better live than they were on this tape.
Did I tell you I found a Nuisance CD way the hell out here in Jacksonville, fl.
I used to watch them practice in Fortuna with my best bro Spencer, he hooked me up with alot of crazy stuff, i like their sound when the mood hits….They were Way better Live, they had a show somewhere in humboldt, and they started their regular show….the heshers made a big nuisance and they stopped the show..started some crazy death metal tunes for about 10 minutes and shut them up, and continued their show business as usual… GREAT Band….
Nice one Brian, the heshers were a little hard on bands that didn’t play the way they wanted them to play. It’s funny having our own built in hesher (you) in the bands we played in somehow always pacified them.
Yeah Brian, you’re like our own Hesher conscience. I remember passing up this demo for their first 7″, which rocks harder and has kind of a Neil Young/stoner-punk vibe to it. I’m glad to hear these tunes after all these years. I do recall, one of the times Nuisance were opening up for NoMeansNo, that the guys in NMN were digging on Nuisance pretty well, “…these guys are actually pretty good!” I recall John Wright saying.
Such cool comments and memories on this post, making me think I need to explore the later output of these guys. I’ll have to look around for that 7″ Ed, your description makes it look appealing.
