I haven’t thrown anything speedy out into the world lately, so I thought I would throw this one out. Kind of a stressful day at work with surveyors coming in to nationally recertify the agency I work for. I wasn’t stressed out by that as much as my co workers who were strutting around putting on a show doing that extra bit that they never normally do. I don’t know, you all could probably care less about that.
I’m not too sure how many people who read this get records from Ebay, but this was one of those scores for me. It was probably 5 years ago when you could get stuff like this fairly cheap. I got this for like $5 postage included. Not anymore though. Now you’re lucky if you can get something where you only pay $5 for just the postage. Several other blogs having been talking about what people are willing to pay for stuff now days. People with lots of money always drive prices up. I can’t remember how I heard of these bands but I was looking for something in the hardcore/power-violence vein at the time and heard these bands would be a good place to look. That’s pretty much what you get out of this record. M.V.D. are pretty much a hardcore band with a crusty edge to them, while the Pink Flamingos are also crusty but they lean more into power violence. In my humble opinion both these German bands rip. It’s hard to find info about them, especially the Pink Flamingos who when you look for them you end up with the John Water’s movie of the same name. Any John Waters fans out there? I did remember that one of the sites in my links had some PF stuff and when I looked around I found it here, http://sunold864.blogspot.com/2007/10/new-chains-for-poor.html . Be sure and tell him Mustard Relics sent you. Anyway do like I did and blast your crappy computer speakers.
M.V.D.
Pink Flamingos
Great shift from the last post. Pink Flamingo, what a great name for a power violence band. The movie is chock full of shock value (singing asshole, Divine eating dog shit), but Waters IMHO did a better job with Desperate Living.
Mom: “Where is my baby, you fucking bitch?”
Baby sitter: “I don’t know, I’m on acid!”
The mom pulls the baby out of the oven…, actually the baby falls out of the oven when the mom opens the door.
I used to be pretty close with both bands, especially Pink Flamingos (ex-SM-70). In 1994, I organized a gig for them (plus Cluster Bomb Unit) – in the basement in the place I lived. It was CRAZY. One of the most powerful things I ever witnessed, mainly due to the sound this basement helped to create. Saw them live countless times during the early 90s and especially PINK FLAMINGOS always blew every other band away. The drummer man, the drummer …. Live, they did covers of Italy’s CHAIN REACTION and “Pennies from Heaven” by the F.U.’s which used to announce as “Penis from Heaven”. I think these were pretty much the last Hardcore gigs I ever been too.
I know some of the people in M.V.D. as they play(ed) in EMBARGO and EBOLA too. I´m not sure but I think some of the PINK FLAMINGO guys went on to Y which evolved to SOLID DECLINE. if you don´t know them yet you should check out Y and SOLID DECLINE! they rip! the M.V.D. / EBOLA split 12″ is on my to-rip-and-post-list for quite a while now so you might be able to d/l it in the nearer future!
Desperate Living, right on Sang, I wonder if they have that at my local video store. Ha Ha. I didn’t know there was an SM-70, Pink Flamingos connection. Good bands seem to be related to other good bands sometimes. It’s the same way with MVD. The sad thing now is that 7″s like this tend to go for a lot more now.
Pink Flamingos fucking kill, i only have the Hiatus split live tape, which is really good when i heard the cover of Chain Reaction i couldnt stop skating till it was over then just rewind it and play it again:), they even do a cover of SM-70 which is pretty funny haha but super hard, i think they started Battle Royal.. or maybe it was just the drummer, i always wanted to play drums liek that but damn i suck haha, hopefully ill find more tapes of this band, im still looking for SM 70 stuff, as well as Y demos.. all thier bands are super insane. great post man
take care
Henrysugly, thax man. I have seen SM-70 all over but one that I remembered was here, http://www.7inchpunk.com/?p=754 .
yeah i downloaded that shit too:) its a great fucking split i love both bands a lot Satanic is crazy as well ask SM 70, i have a comp ep of both bands, and some other two bands, the record just got release i think, or somewhere around 2000.. or after, its really great, i think theres a video of both bands(sm70, satanic mal., and pink flamingos) on youtube.com i found them really sick to watch, i really like those videos check them out when you have time, take care.
Henrysugly, I would love to hear that comp you were talking about. There are a few Satanic Malfunctions posts here, but I think you have checked them out. For those that were curious the videos he was talking about are here: Satanic Malfunctions http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HX91kfNbQq0 , SM-70 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpOsvWszg6k and Pink Flamingos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eCRzHL2Tpo Awesome stuff.
Maybe I’m just Ignorant but these two bands and Extreme Noise Terror sound like death metal to me, which is fine and dandy. I like all three and plenty of other stuff I’d call that.
